Tine: Across the Road You’ll Find the Area’s Best Delicatessen

Forest walks, historic artists’ homes, a café worth travelling for – and of course the area’s best delicatessen. These are just some of the hidden gems highlighted by Tine Hage, who, together with her husband Torben, runs the organic farm Mangholm in North Zealand.

1. Pibe Mølle

An old, beautiful, and beautifully preserved windmill stands proudly in the landscape atop a high hill. In summer, cattle graze in the fields beside the mill, and on selected days, the sails still turn. Across the road, you’ll find the area’s best delicatessen, Pibe Mølle Vin & Ost, where it’s easy to be tempted by all kinds of delicious treats. Much of it is organic.

2. Nejede Vesterskov

A small, beautiful, and fascinating forest area located near Alsønderup Meadows and Pøle Å. The forest is home to breeding sea eagles, and visitors are only allowed to walk along the trails at the edge of the forest. Luckily, there are plenty of them, winding through both old and young woodland, conifer forests, and mixed deciduous woods. It’s a lovely walk of around 6–7 km, featuring small streams, rich undergrowth, and, if you continue into the meadows by the lake, plenty of interesting birds and wildlife. 3. Munkeruphus

A beautiful historic wooden house from a time when architecture was built with aesthetics and quality at its core. Originally built as a summer residence for a large family seeking nature, fresh sea air, and plenty of space, it later became an artists’ home and is now a wonderful cultural venue with an art gallery, café, and greenhouse.

The exhibitions change regularly and often focus on nature. The food and cakes in the café are worth the trip alone, and here you can enjoy the sea, the beautiful surroundings, and the charming greenhouse set among large trees and shrubs in the garden. The house itself is a pleasure to experience – and one you can return to many times throughout the season.

It’s no surprise that this became a favourite retreat for famous Danish Golden Age painters such as Lundbye and Skovgaard. Tine Hage

4. Arrenæs

A small peninsula stretching out into Lake Arresø. The area offers stunning scenery, fascinating cultural heritage, and ancient burial mounds surrounded by meadows, grasslands, and forest. Beautiful hiking routes guide visitors through a varied landscape with magnificent views across Denmark’s largest lake. Not surprisingly, it became a favourite retreat for famous Danish Golden Age painters such as Lundbye and Skovgaard.

5. Garbolund Vineyard

A little gem beautifully located in Annisse, surrounded by the stunning North Zealand landscape. Natural wine is produced here, and throughout the season, the vineyard hosts tasting events with delicious food and music. You can stay overnight in the farm’s lovely rooms or glamping tents and explore the butterfly trail or the farm shop.
