Is it allowed to stay overnight in a camper on the roads?

You are not allowed to camp or stay overnight in the open without using designated areas. Many harbor areas have parking spaces for mobile homes. It is not permitted to pitch a tent in the forest. There are sites designated for overnight stays in the open. For more information, visit the website of the Danish Nature Agency.

Why The Danish Riviera?

On The Danish Riviera you have the beach, the forest, the big lakes. But you also have modern art, harbour promenades and festivals. It is the country side with a city feel. 

How Do I Get There?

If you have already made it to Copenhagen, you can reach The Danish Riviera by car, train or busses. Plan your trip on Journey Planner. The yellow local trains take you all over the region. Concerning COVID-19, please refer to the Danish Government's guidelines

Where is The Danish Riviera?

The Danish Riviera is a region in Denmark. It is situated north of the capital Copenhagen - just about an hour. Some of the noticable towns are: Hundested, Hillerød, Gilleleje and Fredensborg.

Are you allowed to ride on open fields?

It is not allowed to ride on land and fields used for farming without the owner's permission. In open landscapes, riding is permitted on public paths and roads unless there is signage indicating that riding is prohibited.

Which side of the road should you ride on?

On public roads and in traffic, you should ride single file on the right side of the road. If you're riding a young and more nervous horse, you should ride alongside a rider on a more experienced and calm horse, with the experienced horse riding on the outside toward the traffic, and you riding closer to the road's edge. Always be aware of your surroundings, not only the traffic but also what is happening in gardens and driveways along the road.

Is it allowed to ride on the danish beaches?

According to the Nature Conservation Act, it is allowed to ride on the unvegetated beach from September 1st to May 31st, provided there is legal access via roads or paths. If cars are allowed on the beach, riding is also permitted there year-round. However, there are no beaches in North Zealand where cars are allowed!

During the summer period, it is generally not allowed to bring your horse to the beach. However, there are beaches where riding on the beach and bathing with your horse is permitted all year around. Are there nude beaches?

It is allowed to bathe naked on all public beaches in Denmark, however, one must show consideration for the other beach guests. You can see and read more about nude beaches at www.strandguide.dk (it´s in danish)

Blue flag beaches?

On some of the North Sealand beaches, the blue flag wawes in the summertime. The blue flag is a symbol that the beach is quality assured and the bathing water quality is top quality and the environment is looked after.

Can you bring the dog to the beach?

But in short, the dog must be kept on a leash on the beach during the summertime, which runs from April to September. During the winter season, which runs from October to March, the dog is allowed to be loose on the beach, but only if it does not cause harm or other damage and the owner has control over his dog.

On the blue flag beaches, during summer, however, it is absolutely forbidden to bring dogs - Please always notice possible local signage at the beach. 

What is a handicap in golf?

A golf handicap shows how good you are. The golfer's handicap is a number that shows how many strokes it is expected to use on a course. In golf, it's about using as few strokes as you can to get through the course. So the lower the disability, the better you are.

What is a DGU Card?

To get a DGU card it requires you to take a Golf driving license, get a golf handicap (hcp) and enrol in a golf club. The golf driving license introduces you to the game and educates you in the rules, percussion techniques, track games and etiquette. What is greenfee?

Green fees are a fee to pay for a round of golf at a golf course. Most courses in Denmark require you to have a DGU Card, which shows you are a member of the Danish Golf Union. You can also buy yourself a Pay and Play on many courses if you are not a member.

What is pay and play?

If you are not a member of a golf club or have a DGU card (Danish Golf Union) which is a card you need to play on the Danish golf courses, then you can use Pay and Play. Here you pay in the golf shop. You also have the opportunity to rent equipment if you do not own that yourself.

What do I do with my mobile phone while playing golf?

You can easily have your mobile on you while playing golf. It's a good idea to put it on silent so you don't disturb others. Many also use their mobile during the golf game. There is an app called Golfshot which can be used to keep score, set lengths and distances for the various obstacles and for the green. Click here to read more and download the appén.

When are the guided tours at Fredensborg Palace?

During the summer holiday period, guided tours are available at the palace, the orangery, and the herb garden. Purchase tickets and check dates and times on the Kongernes Samling website.

 

How to get to Fredensborg Palace?

It only takes one hour by public transport from Copenhagen Central Station. Take the train to Hillerød station. Here you change trains to Lille Nord, which is one of the Local Trains in North Sealand. Lille Nord runs from Hillerød to Helsingør with a stop in Fredensborg.

Fredensborg Castle is within walking distance of Fredensborg Station. It takes approx. 15 min depending on how fast you walk.

Opening hours at Fredensborg Palace?

The public areas of the palace gardens are always open. The palace is only open for guided tours. 

Bus Connections?

In North Sealand, you can easily get around with buses and trains. There are also a lot of coaches in the entire region. If you are arriving from Copenhagen and wish to go to North Sealand, you can use both the Øresund train to Elsinore and the S-train to Hillerød. See more on the Journey Planner.

It is free of charge to bring your bike on the s-train and local trains, but you have to buy an extra bicycle ticket for the Øresund Train and the buses. Ticket Controllers and bus drivers decide if there is room on the train/bus. Local restrictions on hours where bicycles are unwelcome in trains and buses can occur, check before boarding your transport. Trainconnections?

In North Sealand, you can easily get around with buses and trains. Starting in Hillerød Lokalbanen travels to Elsinore, Gilleleje, Tisvildeleje, Frederiksværk and Hundested. What happens in North Sealand today?

Here, you find great events with an international touch, colourful festivals with music and theatre. There is also a complete subdivision of interesting local experiences you do not want to miss out on. Can you bring a dog at Fredensborg Palace?

Your dog is welcome when on a leash. However, not inside the palace itself.

Where can I find Kronborg Castle?

Kronborg is one of Northern Europe’s finest Renaissance castles. It is world-famous as Hamlet’s and Shakespeare’s castle and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. You find the castle in Helsingør (Elsinore).

When can I use a photo?

Where to park at Kronborg Castle?

Kronborg has its own parking lot, which is on the corner between Nordhavnsvej / Kronborgvej in Elsinore (Helsingør)

Can you bring a dog at Kronborg Castle?

Yes, you are allowed to bring your dog at Kronborg Castle. 

Why is it called Royal North Sealand?

North Sealand has been the sanctuary of the Danish kings for centuries. This is where they cultivated their favourite sport, the chase, relaxing and having fun. Hence the name Royal North Sealand. 

What is the Danish Riviera?

The Danish Riviera is the name of North Sealand's 90-kilometre long coastline. The name is not a new smart marketing effort. As early as in1923 the first tourist brochure mentions the Danish Riviera. A Riviera consists not only of beaches, sand and bathing water alone but also of a hinterland with a rich range of cultural experiences and attractions.

Are there any ferry routes?

You can get to Helsingør in North Sealand by ferry from Helsingborg in Sweden. But there are also local ferries in North Sealand. The little ferry that sails from Rørvig to Hundested and connects North Sealand and the Danish Rivera with Odsherred as well as the small summer ferry Columbus that sails from Kulhuse (Hornsherred) to Sølager (Hundested) All the ferries include bikes and cars.

Travelplan

At the travel plan (Rejseplanen) you can plan your journey by train and bus. You can also take your bicycle for free with the S-train and on the local train, but you have to buy a bicycle ticket for the Øresund train and on the buses. Controllers and the bus driver decide if there is space on the train/bus for bicycles. Read more about bicycles in public transport.

Do you need a fishing license?

Yes, if you are between 18-65 years of age. Fishing license can be purchased at www.fisketegn.dk Read more about angling in North Sealand at our website. 

When is Fredensborg Palace open?

Fredensborg Palace is open to the public in July. The public part of the castle park is open to the public all year round. The private part of the park can only be seen during the month of July, when they open for the guided tours

Where can you fish?

Basically, you can fish in all waters, as long as you have a valid fishing license. In many lakes in the state forests there is free fishing, which means that you can fish for free. Read more about where you can fish here.
