Henriette: It’s Among the Best Dining Experiences in North Zealand
The restaurants and cafés of North Zealand are full of personality, warmth, and hygge – and really good food. Henriette Riedel Blaust, owner of Butik Bakkegården in Vejby, shares her favourites: sourdough buns, beautifully composed dishes, and wonderful places to explore afterwards.

1. Harehøje
My favourite place in North Zealand is Harehøje. It’s not just one single spot, but an area with around 60 Bronze Age burial mounds hidden in the forest.
Several of them sit high in the landscape, up to around 48 metres above sea level, and if you stand on the northernmost mound – which I think is the very best spot – you can easily see the Kattegat to the north on a clear day and watch the bright waves glittering in the sunlight.
You can almost smell the sea and hear birds singing in the peaceful silence of the forest. The place radiates a beautiful balance between the calmness of the woods and the openness of the sea.
2. Heatherhill
Heatherhill near Rågeleje feels almost magical to me. The landscape is rolling, and in winter it becomes a mix of snow-covered hills, crisp cold air and children sledging down the slopes. With views of the open sea on the horizon, it creates a very special North Coast winter atmosphere where the raw beauty of nature and the joy of childhood meet in a peaceful winter panorama.
A late summer evening at Heatherhill is not dramatic, but calm, wide and beautiful. It’s a place where you clearly feel the transition from day to night, with the sea and sky forming one vast open stage. You can enjoy truly excellent pizzas at Il Terrazzo, and the beach there is also fantastic for swimming.
3. Café Havestuen
Café Havestuen is one of my favourite cafés. A little gem in North Zealand where tranquillity, quality and personality come together beautifully. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by a warm and cosy atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home.
The décor and peaceful location, surrounded by fields and nature, create a relaxed setting where you can truly unwind and enjoy the moment.
The coffee is flavourful and carefully prepared. Their homemade cakes, cardamom buns and sourdough rolls are fresh, delicious and crafted with real love for the trade. The sandwiches and light dishes are made with quality ingredients and simple but thoughtful flavours.
The hosts, Annemarie and Jacob, create a homely atmosphere where everyone feels welcome – whether you stop by for a quick coffee or spend an entire afternoon in the garden while the children play games, or you simply enjoy the view.
They focus on organic and homemade food and ingredients (…), and it’s obvious that you feel genuinely welcome here Henriette Riedel Blaust
4. Tinggaarden
Tinggaarden is a restaurant where gastronomy, hospitality and atmosphere come together in an experience that feels both exclusive and personal – and to me, it is among the very best dining experiences in North Zealand.
Restaurant Tinggaarden delivers a complete gourmet experience where quality, flavour and atmosphere blend perfectly together. The restaurant serves creative and flavourful dishes where the best seasonal ingredients meet a modern Nordic expression and confident craftsmanship.
The dishes are beautifully composed, elegant and full of nuanced flavours – from refined starters to an impressive cheese board.
The attentive and personal service contributes to the warm and inviting atmosphere of the cosy and charming surroundings. The wine list is carefully curated, and the staff’s knowledgeable recommendations elevate the entire experience even further.
5. Rosted Tisvildeleje
Rosted Tisvildeleje is a cosy café experience in the heart of Tisvildeleje. Malene and Dan have created a charming café with a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere that works perfectly for morning coffee, brunch, or lunch along the main street.
They focus on organic and homemade food and ingredients. Freshly baked buns and bread, organic apple mulled drink, and æbleskiver during the season. You are truly looked after here, and it’s obvious that guests are made to feel very welcome.
6. Market Days in Vejby
The market days in Vejby are wonderful local market events taking place during the summer in Vejby 3210 on the priest’s field. They are always held on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. Here, passionate local people run stalls selling homemade jam, honey, knitwear, cakes, flowers, and much more. It’s such a lovely local initiative, driven by four active and dedicated local women.
