Winter bating spots

Here, you get our tips for both popular winter bathing spots and where to go before and after the cold dip to warm up.

Where can you winter bathe?

In principle, anywhere along the approximately 300 kilometres long coastline of North Zealand. However, most people prefer a small bathing bridge or, when it's from an open beach, they prefer sand at the bottom. And if you can walk, bike, or drive right up to it, that's perfect.

Nivå

  • South beach at Nivå Harbour and the Waterski Club's bridge at Nivå Harbor. The beach is wide but not very long. The harbour has an intimate environment with red wooden houses and parking spaces. Before and after winter bathing: Restaurant Trekosten.

Sletten

  • Peter Madsen's beach and Bjerre Strand. Peter Madsen's beach is a wide and long beach. Possibility to park right by the beach. At Bjerre Strand, you can change under the open sheds and use the bathing bridges. Before and after winter bathing: Restaurant Sletten, Sletten harbour.

Gilleleje

  • Sandy Beach is on the east side of the harbour. You arrive at the beach at a more oversized parking lot, which provides direct access to the beach. Before and after winter bathing: Hotel Gilleleje Strand, Gilleleje Badehotel, Restaurant Far til 4, Cafés in Gilleleje Hovedgade, and at Gilleleje harbour.

Rågeleje

  • A larger concrete structure (coastal protection) on the beach with a promenade deck and stairs. Here, you can feel the forces of nature—a flat stone beach.

Tisvildeleje

  • An extended, wide sandy beach is at the end of the town street. In connection with the parking lot, there is a newly opened house, "Tisvilde Naturrum" with changing and toilet facilities. Before and after winter bathing: Sankt Helene Feriecenter, Helenekilde Badehotel, Kildegaard, Tisvildeleje Strandhotel, in-town street winter-open restaurants, and cafes.

Esrum Sø

  • The beach at Fredensborg harbour is small and pebbly but very idyllic, with a lovely view of the lake and Gribskov on the opposite shore. Here, one should be aware of the ice situation - Esrum sø is a freshwater lake and can quickly freeze with northern winds and low temperatures. Parking 50 meters. Before and after winter bathing: Fredensborg Store Kro.

Liseleje

  • The town beach is directly connected to Liseleje's restaurant and shop street. The sandy beach is relatively protected with dikes from the coast. Before and after winter bathing: Bring som warm coffee or tea or visit Liseleje Badehotel, where you can get a cup of coffee at Kaffehuset or in one of the other restaurants in Liseleje.

Kikhavn

  • Small, narrow, pebbly beach at the end of the idyllic town street. It is about 500 meters to the parking lot. Before and after winter bathing: Restaurant Havfruen, Halsnæs Bryghus (restaurant and entertainment).

Hundested

  • Trekanten on the north side of Hundested harbour. The sandy beach is delimited by the harbour, dunes, and Skansen. Before and after winter bathing: Restaurant Havfruen, Restaurant Knud, Halsnæs Bryghus at Hundested Harbour

Lynæs

  • Sandy beach on the west side of Lynæs Harbor. Parking options and toilets at Lynæs harbour. At Lynæs harbour, there is a private winter bathing club with a bathhouse and sauna that can be used for DKK 150/year. Before and after winter bathing: Lynæs Fisk & Steakhouse, Lynæs Surfcenter.

Sølager v. færgen

  • Small, narrow shallow sandy beach on both sides of the ferry jetty (the ferry does not sail in winter). Parking spaces 50 meters. Before and after winter bathing: Ha' en kande varm kaffe, te eller suppe med.

Frederiksværk

  • The beach at Hvide Klint, Access via Strandvejen. Hvide Klint has got its name from the place's white cliffs down towards Roskilde Fjord. Off Hvide Klint, there is a long bathing bridge with a platform at the end. Sandy beach. Access to Hvide Klint via Unholtvej, a side road to Strandvejen. Parking in the area. Note that the bathing bridge is taken down for the winter!! Before and after winter bathing: Ha' selv en kande varm kaffe, te eller suppe med.
