Join the Seaweed and Thule Expedition
Take part in an experience-rich expedition by the coast in Hundested, where seaweed, history and the ocean come together for a day to remember.
Discover the superfood of the sea
Knowledge before action
The expedition begins on land, above Knud Rasmussen’s House, with an introduction to the world of seaweed. Participants learn about different coastal species, their use in marine life and cuisine, and why just 6 grams of seaweed equals 600 grams of vegetables in vitamins and minerals.
Sustainability and use
Participants are taught how to harvest seaweed responsibly and sustainably, along with tips on how to prepare and cook it. Questions like “Did Knud eat seaweed?” and “How do Greenlanders use seaweed today?” put the experience into a cultural and historical perspective.
Into the water – and home with your harvest
With waders or water shoes, participants head into the sea to harvest their own seaweed. This hands-on part of the expedition offers a sensory, engaging way to explore the sea.
Knud Rasmussen’s House – home of an Arctic explorer
After harvesting, the tour continues with a guided visit to Knud Rasmussen’s House. New exhibitions and stories introduce guests to the man behind the legendary Arctic expeditions that made him a national hero in Denmark.
