A Winter Break at Frederiksborg Castle of Colour, Curiosity and Creativity

Frederiksborg invites families to enjoy a winter break filled with creativity, colour, and experiments. Where art and chemistry meet, imagination comes to life.

The Portrait Gallery – Create Like Kørner

A Sensory Encounter with Art and Science

In The Portrait Gallery, children and adults explore how paint behaves. What happens when it gets wet? How do colours mix and move? Inspired by John Kørner’s abstract and spontaneous works, participants can create their own colourful artworks through experimentation and play.

Where Creativity Meets Chemistry

The lab is a space where artistic expression and scientific curiosity go hand in hand. Using the three primary colours – red, blue, and yellow – visitors mix and observe surprising new shades. There’s no right or wrong – just courage to explore.

Create Problems! – An Independent Discovery

Rethinking What a Problem Is

Based on the portrait of Nobel Prize winner Morten Meldal and John Kørner’s artistic approach, this activity invites visitors to reflect on the idea of a “problem.” Is it always something to solve – or something to explore?

Art Meets Research

Both artists and scientists investigate the world around them. This activity space encourages children and adults to ask questions, explore ideas, and challenge their perspectives – just like Meldal and Kørner do in their work.

Family Tour – Tracing the Path of Science

A Journey of Discovery for All Ages

Join an engaging family tour that brings children and adults closer to the world of researchers. Through play, movement, and curiosity, participants discover how experimentation drives both artistic and scientific breakthroughs.

Short, dynamic and child-friendly

The tour includes just a few key stops and keeps a playful pace, designed with younger visitors in mind. Active participation and fun storytelling ensure a lively and meaningful experience for the whole family.

Art, Chemistry and Imagination at the Castle

Frederiksborg Castle provides a magnificent setting for winter break activities. Through hands-on workshops and thought-provoking displays, visitors can engage with the worlds of both science and art. Meldal’s portrait becomes a gateway to creativity – and to the imagination of each participant.
