KRUDT – Where History Comes Alive Through Sound and Space
A Sensory Journey into Denmark’s Gunpowder History. Step into Denmark’s industrial and military past like never before at the newly revitalised KRUDT. A festive opening day welcomes curious visitors to explore engaging exhibits and sensory storytelling.
A New Way to Experience History
KRUDT brings the story of gunpowder to life through sound, light, and interactive elements. Visitors journey through restored factory halls where the sound of watermills, machines, and workers echo through time. The production process – from raw materials to final product – is told through vivid storytelling and tactile displays.
Danger at Work – Explosions and Reality
A dramatic installation lets visitors feel what it means to work under hazardous conditions. A simulated explosion provides insight into the daily risks faced by the factory workers.
Outdoor Exhibits and Historical Insight
A new outdoor trail highlights how waterpower drove the gunpowder production. With a fully restored waterwheel and channel system, guests can explore how 18th-century engineering shaped Denmark’s industrial strength.
A Story That Resonates Today
Founded in 1756, Frederiks Værk was Denmark’s strategic response to external threats and reliance on foreign arms. KRUDT offers a modern reflection on national security and self-reliance – then and now.
