Discover the food history of North Zealand

During Culture Night, Museum Nordsjælland opens the doors to an evening focused on historical food culture. At Elværket Hillerød, visitors can explore how meals from the past could be both simple, surprising and shaped by local ingredients.

The museum’s archaeologists will serve small tastings inspired by recipes from different historical periods. The recipes are based on discoveries from local archaeological excavations and offer insight into what people in North Zealand ate through the centuries.

Activities for children and adults

Visitors can take part in several activities throughout the evening. In the quiz “Guess the Lunchbox”, guests can try to identify what children ate for lunch in different periods of history.

Museum Nordsjælland also invites visitors to share memories of their own school lunches and food traditions.

At the artefact table, guests can get close to objects uncovered during archaeological excavations. Visitors are welcome to touch and examine the finds while archaeologists explain their history and use.

An event for curious minds

Taste the Past is designed for anyone with an interest in history, food culture and archaeology – whether beginners or enthusiasts. The event welcomes families, friends and curious visitors of all ages.
