From Gravel Pit to Nature Park

Once used for the extraction of materials for concrete production, Ølsted Gravel Pit was given a new purpose following its closure. Through local engagement and dedication, the area has been transformed into an attractive destination for outdoor recreation. Today, the site offers a diverse natural environment where visitors can enjoy both relaxation and active experiences in nature.

Experiences in Nature

A network of trails leads you through and around the former gravel pit, providing opportunities to explore its distinctive terrain. From the highest point of the gravel pit, 47 metres above sea level, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of Roskilde Fjord and Lake Arresø, Denmark’s largest lake.

Birdwatching and Wildlife

The birdwatching tower offers an excellent vantage point for observing the area's wildlife and appreciating the surrounding landscape.

Facilities for the Whole Family

The nature park features a range of facilities that make it suitable for both short visits and longer stays. The outdoor stage provides a setting for activities and events in the open air. The picnic shelter offers a comfortable place to take a break, while several seating and rest areas invite visitors to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Overnight Stays in Nature

Visitors looking for a more immersive outdoor experience can make use of the shelters and campfire area. The shelters operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is space for tents if the shelters are occupied. Firewood and a water point help create convenient conditions for spending a night in the natural surroundings.
