Nødebo Church – one of North Zealand’s oldest churches

A church dating back to the 13th century

The oldest parts of Nødebo Church – the nave and chancel – date from the Romanesque period and can be traced back to the 13th century.

Around 1400, vaults were added to the church and the building was extended to the west. The walls of the new section were built so solidly that it is believed there may originally have been plans to add a church tower.

The tower was never built. Instead, the church was given its distinctive roof turret in 1739, replacing an earlier free-standing bell tower.

Nødebo Church is located at Nødebovej 18 in Nødebo, close to both Gribskov Forest and Lake Esrum. A visit to the church can therefore easily be combined with a walk or excursion in the surrounding countryside.

The church is open to visitors by prior arrangement.
