Experience Postyrium – The Royal Danish Theatre’s children’s universe at Gjethuset

When Postyrium arrives at Gjethuset in May, the area transforms into a vibrant theatre playground. The Royal Danish Theatre invites children and their families into a colourful universe where classical performing arts are explored through play, movement and imagination.

A travelling theatre playground

Postyrium is the Royal Danish Theatre’s mobile children’s universe – created to bring the performing arts closer to children across the country. Inside the distinctive containers, doors open to a world of drama, opera, ballet and music, where children take centre stage.

Here, touching, listening, trying and playing are all encouraged. The experience is designed for active participation, allowing children to explore the performing arts with all their senses.

Step into the world of performing arts

At Postyrium, children can:

  • Dance like a ballet performer

Try out steps in front of the mirror and get a sense of life in a rehearsal studio.

  • Explore the world of music

Listen to instruments from the orchestra pit and discover how sound shapes atmosphere and storytelling.

  • Dress up and create theatre

Invent their own stories with costumes, roles and imagination at the centre.

The activities are developed to spark curiosity and creativity, giving children the opportunity to experience the arts from the inside.

For families and schools

Postyrium is particularly aimed at children aged 4–10. Schools and educational groups can visit as part of a structured programme, including an introduction and time for free exploration. Families are welcome to experience Postyrium together and discover the inspiring universe at their own pace.

Part of the Royal Danish Theatre’s work for children and young people

Postyrium is part of the Royal Danish Theatre’s commitment to making classical performing arts accessible and relevant to more children. Through play and participation, children gain an early exposure to art and culture that can strengthen their imagination, foster community, and promote understanding.

When Postyrium visits Gjethuset, children and adults are invited into a world where art opens up – and where play takes centre stage.
