Get closer to the castle’s history

Culture Night opens the doors to parts of Frederiksborg that are not usually included in a regular museum visit.

Visit the attic above the Great Hall

Make your way up into the impressive attic of the church wing and get a close look at the castle’s historic roof structure. Access is via narrow staircases, so the visit is not suitable for people with limited mobility, wheelchair users or pushchairs.

Meet the Royal Historiographer of the Orders

In the Chamber of Orders, Royal Historiographer of the Orders Ronny Skov Andersen shares stories about royal orders of chivalry, medals and decorations. Discover the traditions and history behind these royal honours.

Music in historic surroundings

Hear the Compenius Organ

Get close to the Compenius Organ from 1610 and hear the sound of this historic instrument. It is considered the world’s oldest playable organ of its kind.

Experience a historic clavichord

Organist Allan Rasmussen offers a glimpse into the sound of a historic clavichord with short, intimate mini-concerts.

Choirs in the Castle Church

Frederiksborg Boys’ Choir and Chamber Choir fill the Castle Church with song beneath its gilded vaults. The historic surroundings provide an atmospheric setting for the evening’s concerts.

Weave, embroider and explore GOBELIN

In the drop-in workshop, children and adults can embroider dandelions and spider webs on postcards or contribute to the large communal looms.

There are also short guided tours of the GOBELIN exhibition, revealing the stories behind the tapestries. Culture Night is also one of the final opportunities to experience the exhibition.

Nature activities for children and adults

Meet nature interpreters in Fadeburet and learn more about spider webs and nature’s own constructions. Children and adults can also try weaving on large nature-inspired looms.

Food and drink experiences at Frederiksborg

Culture Night also offers a variety of food and drink experiences. Rabarbergaarden serves a communal meal and local potato soup with sourdough bread, while elsewhere at Frederiksborg visitors can sample speciality beer and cherry products from Frederiksdal.

Frederiksborg after dark

As darkness falls, the museum’s rooms can be experienced by the glow of chandeliers. Outside, torches in the Baroque Garden and lanterns in Staldgade create a special atmosphere around the castle and the evening’s activities.

Practical information

A regular museum ticket also provides admission to Culture Night. Annual pass holders must reserve a ticket for the event. Tickets and annual passes can be booked in advance.
