Christmas for the whole family

Hillerød Town Museum provides a cosy setting for a Christmas experience that brings generations together. The museum is decorated for the festive season with traditional ornaments and fir garlands, while an old-fashioned coffee elf has taken up residence in the grocery shop in Tidens Gade.

Throughout the museum, families can explore Hillerød’s Christmas history and discover how festive traditions have changed over time.

Creative Christmas activities

There are opportunities to get creative together on both floors of the museum. Children and adults can help expand the museum’s miniature elf village, decorate Christmas biscuits and create their own Christmas baubles.

Help build the miniature elf village

The miniature Christmas landscape has Hillerød Town Museum at its centre and features tiny elves, houses, trees and wintry surroundings. Visitors can create new elves and help make the landscape even bigger.

Christmas wishes through the years

At the museum’s large wishing tree, children and adults can compare Christmas wishes from different generations. What did people once hope to find under the Christmas tree, and how do those wishes compare with what children wish for today?

Christmas hearts, elves and biscuits

Christmas at the museum also features woven Christmas hearts and other creative activities. Visitors can try the elf catapult and see unique woven Christmas hearts created by Leif, a Danish champion in the traditional craft.

Festive treats and small Christmas gifts

The museum shop offers traditional paper cut-out sheets and a selection of small items that could make lovely Christmas gifts or prizes for the traditional Danish Christmas rice pudding game. Visitors can also enjoy gløgg, the Scandinavian version of mulled wine, and æbleskiver served with jam and icing sugar.
