The Danish Riviera – Coast, Seaside Towns and Experiences in North Zealand
What is the Danish Riviera?
The Danish Riviera is the coastal area along the north coast of North Zealand, where sandy beaches, seaside towns, fishing villages and coastal landscapes meet. Stretching from Halsnæs in the west towards the Øresund coast in the east, it includes towns such as Hundested, Liseleje, Tisvildeleje, Rågeleje, Gilleleje and Dronningmølle.
The Danish Riviera has been a popular holiday destination since the 19th century, when artists, writers and Copenhageners began escaping to the coast in search of nature, tranquillity and summer life. Among the well-known visitors were Hans Christian Andersen, Søren Kierkegaard and P.S. Krøyer.
Today, you can combine a seaside holiday with hiking and cycling, art and culture, local food experiences and accommodation close to the sea.
