Kierkegaard: “If one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right”

Audio walk in nature in Kierkegaard’s footsteps

In the summer of 1835, Denmark’s famous philosopher Søren Kierkegaard stayed in Gilleleje for eight weeks. He loved walking in the area, and Gilbjerg Head became one of his favourite spots. Along the narrow, winding paths by the steep cliffs facing the Kattegat, he took his walks and reflected on life’s big questions.

The route is signposted as the Gilbjerg Path, making it easy to find your way. Along the trail, you can also engage in a kind of dialogue with the old philosopher by downloading the Useum app on your smartphone and selecting Kierkegaard by Nature.

The route runs from Hundested to Helsingør through a varied coastal landscape of beaches, dunes and cliffs, passing coastal towns such as Liseleje, Tisvildeleje and Gilleleje.

Along the way, stop in the old fishing village of Kikhavn, explore Troldeskoven, visit the harbour in Gilleleje or make a detour to Rudolph Tegner’s Museum and Statue Park in Dronningmølle.

There are only a few shelters along the route, but you will find a range of accommodation in the coastal towns and further inland.
