A Day in Fredensborg – Nature, Culture and Gourmet

  • Start your morning with great coffee and a treat at Country Market, where you can explore local specialities and taste Thornæs Gin.
  • Take a leisurely walk through the Fredensborg Palace Gardens, a place full of history that’s beautiful all year round.
  • Continue through the garden to Restaurant Skipperhuset, where you can enjoy a delicious lunch with views over Lake Esrum.
  • After lunch, visit the world-renowned Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk — one of the leading art museums in the world.
  • On your way back, stop at Årstiderne Gårdbutik to fill your basket with fresh, local produce to take home.
  • Finish the day with a gourmet dinner and an overnight stay at Fredensborg Store Kro in historic surroundings.

Tip: You can also choose to dine at Louisiana and enjoy the museum in the evening, when you may have it almost to yourselves.

A Day in Hillerød – Castle, Shopping and Town Life

  • Start your day at Rømers Kaffebar with excellent coffee, a cosy atmosphere and fresh pastries.
  • Visit Frederiksborg Castle and take a stroll through the beautiful Baroque Garden, which is especially lovely this time of year.
  • Walk back to the town square along Søstien and enjoy a light lunch or a glass of wine at Torvets Café & Vinbar, a local favourite with a charming atmosphere.
  • Spend some time exploring the shops and soaking up the lively town centre.
  • As evening falls, you can stay at Four Points Flex by Sheraton or Best Western Hotel Hillerød. The latter has its own restaurant — Restaurant Krydderiet — serving seasonal dishes with fresh herbs from the hotel garden.

Tip: Check the programme at Royal Stage or Klaverfabrikken — there may be a concert or theatre event to complete your day out.

Hop On / Hop Off along the Coastal Line – Art, Coffee and Seaside Charm

  • Get off at Nivå and visit Nivaagaards Malerisamling — enjoy its impressive art collection, stroll the museum park and finish with a coffee in the café.
  • Take a walk to the bird tower and experience winter birdlife in Nivå Bay — a peaceful break with lovely views over the water.
  • Then hop on the train again towards Humlebæk, where you can start with a refreshment at Lind’s Kaffebar.
  • Visit Årstiderne Gårdbutik to pick up fresh organic treats.
  • Continue to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. If you visit later in the day, you’ll almost have the museum to yourselves — then enjoy dinner at Louisiana’s café with panoramic views over the Øresund.
