A Day in Gilleleje – Sea Air, Wine and Seaside Hotel Charm

  • Take the train to Gilleleje and begin your day with freshly baked bread and coffee from Mikrobageriet at the station.
  • Then follow the historic escape route, “When the Jews Fled”, and gain insight into the dramatic story of the rescue of Danish Jews during the Second World War.
  • Warm up afterwards at Choff or Kontoret Coffee & Wine with a good cup of coffee and something sweet.
  • If you’re feeling hungry, enjoy lunch at Hotel Gilleleje Strand – a classic seaside hotel with beautiful sea views.
  • Spend the afternoon exploring the harbour and its small independent shops, or hire a bike and cycle out to Gilleleje Wine for a tasting of locally produced wines.
  • Round off the day with a walk along the scenic Gilbjerg Path and dinner at Hôtel de Ville or Gilleleje Badehotel.

💡 Tip: Gilleleje is easy to reach by train from Copenhagen – the station is located right in the centre of town.

A Day of Nature, Wine and Local Delicacies

  • Start your day with a refreshing walk in Hegnet, where you’ll find tranquillity, winding paths and beautiful natural surroundings.
  • Then stop by Pibe Mølle Vin & Ost to sample local cheeses and wines. Just a five-minute walk away, you can visit the historic Pibe Mølle windmill.
  • Afterwards, head to Tibberuphus for a sandwich and a warm cup of coffee in cosy surroundings.
  • From here, it’s less than a ten-minute walk to Solbjerg Engsø, where you can enjoy a peaceful moment overlooking the lake and the surrounding nature.
  • End the day with dinner – and perhaps an overnight stay – at Bymose Hegn, where the kitchen focuses on dishes made from high-quality local ingredients.

💡 Tip: Also visit Thornæs Distillery or Haldbjerg Nature Campus – two unique places showcasing North Zealand’s local craftsmanship and flavours.
