Seaweed expedition in Hundested – harvest and taste vegetables from the sea

Discover seaweed above and below the surface

The tour begins with a thorough introduction at Tanghulen at Hundested Harbour before heading to the beach. Here, you will explore different species of seaweed and learn about their role in the marine ecosystem.

You will also learn about the flavours, vitamins and minerals found in seaweed, how to prepare and store it, and how to use it in everyday cooking. Along the way, you will discover why 6 grams of seaweed can be compared with 600 grams of vegetables – and which types of seaweed can be found in products such as toothpaste and chocolate milk.

Harvest your own seaweed

Once in the water, you will be guided through the harvesting process and learn how to collect seaweed with consideration for the plants and the surrounding area. Along the way, you can taste fresh edible seaweed and take a portion home together with instructions and a recipe.

The expeditions take place in small groups, allowing plenty of time for questions and guidance.

If you would like to learn more about cooking with seaweed, you can join a seaweed cookery class later in the autumn. You can also visit the seaweed shop at Hundested Harbour, where a variety of seaweed products are available.

Practical information

• The price is DKK 300 per person including VAT. Children participate free of charge on this day, with a maximum of two children per adult.
• Bring your own waders or hire a pair for DKK 50. Remember to bring scissors and a clean container for your harvest.
• Registration takes place via the webshop.
• Participation is at your own risk. As part of the expedition takes place on rocky ground, it is generally not suitable for people with limited mobility or poor balance. Tours on partly sandy ground can be arranged on request.
