A Mysterious Universe

Meet mysterious musicians, scientists, travellers and strange creatures in Varo’s detailed paintings. Her images are precise and have a visual language reminiscent of the aesthetics of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, while also being filled with fantastical scenes, symbols and stories that invite you to explore.

Between Science and Magic

Remedios Varo was fascinated by everything from mythology and mysticism to mechanics, technology and quantum physics. She brought these diverse interests together in a unique artistic universe where scientific ideas and spiritual beliefs can exist side by side.

A Surrealist Artist and Feminist

Varo was part of the surrealist art circles in both Paris and Mexico, but developed her own distinctive visual language. As a feminist, she was particularly interested in female creativity and self-determination, and her works often explore women as a creative and searching force.

Remedios Varo at Louisiana

The exhibition at Louisiana is the first major museum exhibition in Europe dedicated to Remedios Varo and features more than 70 works. Here, you can experience paintings, drawings, notebooks and historical material that together tell the story of an artist whose unique perspective on reality continues to fascinate.
