Easter at Frederiksborg: Creative Experiences with Thread, Colours and Weaving

During the Easter holidays, Frederiksborg is filled with colours, threads, and creativity. Children and families can take part in workshops and activities inspired by the exhibition GOBELIN – In Tune with Time, where woven motifs, patterns, and stories create the setting for shared experiences.

Creative activities inspired by GOBELIN

In the exhibition GOBELIN – In Tune with Time, woven motifs tell stories through colours, patterns, and threads. This atmosphere continues in the museum’s creative activities, where children and families can explore how textiles can become images and narratives.

In the workshop, participants work with their hands while ideas develop from small experiments into shared creations. Here, it is possible to explore what happens when threads cross and how repetition, layers, and patterns can create new expressions.

Collaborative weaving – a growing artwork

  • Weave a part of the shared work

In the workshop, children and families can help create a collaborative artwork on a large loom. Each participant contributes their own colours, patterns, and ideas – perhaps a stripe, a zigzag, or something entirely new.

As more people contribute, the artwork grows day by day and gradually changes. A visit later in the holidays may therefore reveal a completely different expression.

In the Great Hall, visitors can also experience a large loom where textile techniques and patterns become part of the exhibition’s visual universe.

Creative workshop: Magic with stitches and patterns

  • Try embroidery

In the workshop, children and families can work with needle and thread and experiment with embroidery. Inspiration comes from motifs and techniques in the special exhibition GOBELIN – In Tune with Time.

Participants can create their own patterns and work with colours, repetition, and shapes. The result is a small embroidered artwork that can be taken home.

Family tour in the GOBELIN exhibition

  • Following the stories in the tapestries

A family tour takes participants into the exhibition GOBELIN – In Tune with Time, focusing on the stories told through the woven motifs. Along the way, participants explore how images are built from threads, layers, and repetition, and how textiles can communicate stories. The tour begins on the ground floor and ends in the Great Hall, where some of the exhibition’s large works can be experienced.
