The Tisvilde Trail stretches approximately 70 km and lets you explore the diverse landscapes of North Zealand. The route passes through the King’s North Zealand National Park with deep forests, open fields, and lakes. Along the way, cosy villages invite you for a rest and refreshment.
From historical landmarks to coastal views
The journey begins at Esrum Monastery, one of Denmark’s oldest monastic sites, surrounded by forest and Esrum Lake. You will pass highlights such as Gribskov Forest and the ruins of Asserbo Castle before finishing at Tisvildeleje, famous for its sandy beaches and summer cottages.
A year-round hiking adventure
The trail is perfect in every season. Spring and summer offer blooming landscapes, autumn transforms the woods into colourful tapestries, and winter walks provide a calm, frosty charm.
Signage, maps, and guided tours
The Tisvilde Trail is well signposted, making it easy to follow. For a longer adventure, start at Frederiksborg Castle Gardens in Hillerød, extending the trail to about 95 km. Maps of the route can be purchased from Tisvildevejen. In addition, many volunteers offer guided walks along the route, which can be booked directly through Tisvildevejen.

The route can be divided into stages, making it suitable for both day hikes and multi-day adventures. Accommodation, dining options, and cultural sites can be found along the way.
